We'd measure the true opening at the stone pillars, spec IP-rated seals and stainless hardware for the wet winters, gusset the welds against thermal movement, and hang it with a UL 325-listed operator and the monitored entrapment-protection devices the application needs, plus battery backup.
Built for wet Sierra winters
Georgetown's summers bring heat and intense UV that chalk and peel standard paints — which is why we spec industrial-grade powder coating with UV-resistant detailing. But the wet Sierra foothill winters are the harder test: persistent moisture drives into operator enclosures and hinge bearings and causes corrosion and eventual seizure unless IP-rated seals and stainless hardware are used. Fine dust off dry ground and unpaved access roads grinds at roller assemblies and chain drives. Clad-wood inserts are prone to delamination and warping from moisture and freeze-thaw cycles, so marine-grade sealing and proper ventilation matter. And the weight of a heavy custom gate plus thermal movement means robust gusseting is worth building into the welds.

Will a cedar-infill gate survive the freeze-thaw?
With marine-grade sealing and proper detailing, yes — though wood does move. Where a client wants less upkeep at this elevation we'll steer toward a clad or composite panel over the steel frame. Either way the steel carries the structure and we seal against the moisture.
