Does the clay soil change how you build the footing?
Where the expansive kind is present, yes. It moves with the seasons and can shift a shallow footing, misaligning a swing or binding a slide. On a lot where we find it, we set deeper, wider footings below that active zone. We base that on the actual dig rather than assuming every Rio Linda lot is the same.
My property has big old trees. Will the install damage them?
We plan around them. Instead of trenching through a root system, we route the conduit around the major root balls or bore beneath them, which protects the tree and keeps the conduit from being crushed as the roots grow. Damaged roots later crush conduit and take out safety-device wiring, so we route to avoid that.
Will the summer heat affect an automatic gate?
Prolonged heat over 100 degrees is hardest on the battery backup inside the operator — it shortens battery life and can leave the gate stranded during an outage. We select the operator and size the backup for the climate, and seal the runs so the seasonal heat-then-moisture cycle doesn’t reach the control board.
My gate will sit far from the house. Any problem powering it?
Only if the wire is undersized. A long run loses voltage, and an underfed operator runs sluggish and wears early. We size the wire heavier for the distance, and where the run is very long we’ll consider a sub-panel closer to the gate. We plan it up front.
Do you locate buried lines before digging?
